Ontario residents, depending on the Ontario Trillium Benefit (OTB) will soon receive their next payment on November 10, 2025. This monthly benefit continues to be one of the most valuable supports for low- and middle-income households, helping them manage energy bills, property taxes, and daily living costs.
Earlier in July 2025, the provincial government increased all three components of the OTB to help Ontarians cope with inflation and rising expenses. Depending on factors such as income, location, and family size, eligible residents can now receive up to $2,100 annually.

What Is the Ontario Trillium Benefit (OTB)?
The Ontario Trillium Benefit combines three provincial tax credits into one easy monthly payment. Instead of managing separate programs, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) handles a single deposit based on your 2024 tax return for the 2025–2026 benefit year.
The OTB includes:
- Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit (OEPTC)
- Northern Ontario Energy Credit (NOEC)
- Ontario Sales Tax Credit (OSTC)
This payment is non-taxable and designed to offset housing, energy, and tax-related expenses.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the 2025–2026 OTB, you must:
- Be a resident of Ontario as of December 31, 2024
- Have filed your 2024 income tax return
- Possess a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- Have paid rent, property tax, or energy costs in 2024
You must also qualify for at least one of the following credits:
- OSTC – Age 19 or older, or have a spouse/common-law partner or child
- OEPTC – Paid rent, property tax, or energy costs in Ontario
- NOEC – Resident of Northern Ontario, age 18+ or with dependents, and paid energy/property costs
Even if you qualify for just one credit, you are eligible for the OTB.

How to Receive Your OTB Payment
You don’t need to apply separately for the Ontario Trillium Benefit. The CRA determines eligibility automatically when you file your taxes.
To ensure smooth payments:
- File taxes every year before the deadline.
- Complete Form ON-BEN in your tax return.
- Include rent, property tax, and energy details.
- Sign up for direct deposit for faster payments.
- Update personal information promptly through your CRA My Account.
If you missed filing the ON-BEN form, you can use the T1 Adjustment Request in your CRA account to correct your return.
Why the November Payment Matters
With winter approaching, the November 10 OTB deposit arrives just in time to help Ontario families handle higher heating and utility costs. The raised benefit rates introduced in July make this payment especially valuable for seniors, renters, and low-income households during the colder months.
Keeping your CRA information accurate ensures you continue receiving this crucial monthly support without disruption.
